Hedgehogs are spiny mammals of the subfamily Erinaceinae, in the eulipotyphlan family Erinaceidae. Shrews are small Mole-like mammals classified in the order Eulipotyphla.

Although its external appearance is generally that of a long-nosed Mouse, Shrews are not rodents, as Mice are. They are in fact, a much closer relative of Hedgehogs & Moles.Shrews have sharp, spike-like teeth, whereas rodents have gnawing front incisor teeth.

There are 17 species of Hedgehog in five genera found throughout parts of Europe, Asia, and Africa, and in New Zealand by introduction.
