Cockatoos, Macaws, Parrots & Parakeets,

Summary

Gallery:

Parrots (order Psittaciformes), also known as Psittacines are birds with a strong curved beak, upright stance, and clawed feet.

Parrots are classified in four families that contain roughly 410 species, found mostly in tropical and sub-tropical regions. The four families are Old World Parrots, African and New World Parrots, Cockatoos and New Zealand Parrots.  One-third of all parrot species are threatened by extinction, Parrots have a generally tropical distribution with several species inhabiting temperate regions as well

Macaws are a group of large New World Parrots that are long-tailed and often colorful, in the tribe Arini. They are popular in aviculture or as companion parrots, although there are conservation concerns about several species in the wild.

Cockatoos are relatively large Parrots found in wooded habitats in Australia, New Guinea, and some of the islands of Indonesia. They can be locally very numerous, leading to them sometimes being considered pests.
