This was our 1st time in Lesvos and we loved it. Lesvos is a magical island.
It is unspoilt and sparsely populated and a more friendly, welcoming people you will not find. Within all this wild and cultivated space is a diversity of wildlife befitting an island that sits on the boundaries between East and West.
The main thing that struck me was the lack of huge hotel complexes that you see in other parts of the mediterranean. We hired a car at Mytelini airport for the duration of our stay. Our base was Nicki’s Studios in Petra, we loved it. Very quiet and relaxed. Our usual holiday routine ensued with me driving off for early morning wildlife photography and arriving back mid to late morning to spend the rest of the day with Maureen.
The wildlife (particulary birdlife) was everything I had read about and we plan to return next year (2027) but this time staying in Skalla Kalloni which is a Mecca for wildlife being slap bang in the middle of the east/west migration flyway.
