Melis Gard, Lierne, Norway

Summary

Location: Norway

Trip Date: January 2024

I have always wanted to visit Scandinavia and I read about Melis Gard on the internet.

I flew to Trondheim via Oslo and was met at the airport by Daniel, We drove for 3 hours to his farmhouse in Melis Gard which is in Lierne National Park and quite close to the Swedish border. The area is outstanding and I settled into an extension of Daniel and his wife Leens’ farm for the duration of my 10 day stay.

Waking up on my 1st morning was joyous with a gorgeous dawn and beautiful woodland and around a foot or so of snow.  Given that the temperature was around -20 degrees it felt surprisingly warm and I have to say I never felt really cold in all the time I was there.

Most of the hides apart from some excursions were in the vicinity of the farm and were reached by Skidhoo (very exciting). The usual routine being that Daniel drove me there and left me, coming back a few hours later. The hides were beautiffuly built and sites. I had the whole place to myself – wonderful.

I am indebted to Daniel and Leen for making me feel so welcome and I hope to visit again in th future but perhaps at a different time of year.
